My wife and I were visiting Tamarindo and decided that since we were only hours from Monteverde we should visit. Our goal was to see a toucan and a sloth. All of the tour operators in Tamarindo said/ thought we were nuts, but we went ahead and made arrangements. 

Our first adventure was a night tour with Oscar at the Wildlife Refuge. Wow! We saw four toucans-3 varieties, 2 sloths, motmots, kinkajou,green viper, walking sticks, bio- luminescent moss, and a frog no bigger than a ladybug. Plus bats swarming the hummingbird feeder.

Within the first hours, we had achieved our goal! Well worth the time and expense!
